Spatrek is part of the WTL International Group of companies based in the village of Bolsey, near Macclesfield in Cheshire. There has been a mill at Bosley since 1832 and started the processing of wood in the 1920's. WTL International is a family company that has been diversified from its wood flour production including the production of wood pellets for cat litter. Spatrek is the Pet Products division of WTL International.

Smart Cat® was the first wood based cat litter to be manufactured in the UK and since then the Smart Pet Products range has expanded to include Smart Cat Paper Litter, Smart Bedding and Smart Shavings as well as Smart Cat Urine Test Kits for vets.
